about

The mercurial FRANCESCO FONTE BAND (IT / UK) - imagine Prince, the Nine Inch Nails, Suede and Pink Floyd all collapsing into an absinthe-induced cloud of beauty and melancholy and throw in a brutally powerful rock backbone. Unforgettable and unfathomable. By Anton Sh www.blues-e-news.com

Francesco Fonte with his voice, with his music enters the gates of perception taking his bandmates with him as guards of his path. A twisted travel full of lights and shadows because to walk this path is inevitably a way to be surrounded by his own demons, taking them by the hand, metabolising them to exorcize them through the vibrations of a six strings that is for this musician a weapon of defence more than a music instrument. By Christian Montagna www.christianmontagna.blogspot.it

They are omens...an ephemeral trip through the maze of a mind on a lengthy journey through the ordinary; a fall down the rabbit hole…

Review of "BlueOmens" by:
www.christianmontagna.com

Universe is the Perfect Being. “Blue Omens” is the Universe embodied in MUSIC.
This album is the astral projection of every inner good and evil.
I've contemplated and listened to this sonic greatness for long as one contemplates Nature itself, in its infinite beauty, and I can consciously state that only a sublime, deep and sensible mind could reach such a result. Only an utmost craftsman could create so many contorted shades arranged in such a marvellously harmonious manner.
Francesco Fonte is a chosen one, a changing soul, a brush in the hands of Music itself; he contains feelings drenched in a sublime charm, modelled by a thinking and wordily mind, an absolutely transcendent will.
He is the man who's master of himself, bound to create infinity into infinity, going through it with respect and an approach sometimes soft and sensual, sometimes scathing and penetrating; like velvet raped by an unstable wind.
Here is a “True” Artist, who composes only for the soul's sake, who creates for a visceral urge able to save his own life, not for the material body, not for some futile fashion!
As the album flows all that's insignificant perishes under the vibrations of his powerful voice. A vocal extension that reaches enormous heights with a lacerating expressivity.
Yes, a voice that spits freaked out diamonds like cutting razors, reaching straight to the heart sharpening our sleeping psyche, slave of past and present photographic cells which open inside the brain every time “Blue Omens” is played. To live an album like this is a gift, a true ritual, songs that get inside you and shake the spirit.
“Illumination” opens the CD and you immediately realise that there's no turning back, the journey begins and these obscure, spaced out and psychedelic notes hold you against the wall and keep you there for the whole travel. There are 15 tracks on this record and it would be useless to analyse every single song, a track-by-track analysis would be too obvious because what we perceive is so complex that there is no way to express a rational judgement. I'm talking about Art at 360 degrees, music that is not written for a plastered market or worse, to reach a mainstream position inside it. This i MUSIC played with the guts and a masterful creativity, that doesn't call for fashion or worse for a marketing position. This is the essence of a fantastic Musician that lives his torment, both of his inner self and of daily living, shaping it into emotional notes, able to tear down the barriers of a contorted music business, which currently supports bands that mostly are hit list products more than true musicians.
Francesco Fonte tells about himself to hit the HEART and the ETERNAL soul!
A music that doesn't copy anyone and is fed only by the feeling of being part of Life itself.
I can only refer to relevant names to let you understand which musical territories are crossed by “Blue Omens”, or which bands I feel close to this Musician: Screaming Trees, Mark Lanegan, Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree, Jeff Buckley, One Day As A Lion, Pink Floyd, RadioHead, The Mars Volta, Soundgarden, Massive Attack, Enablers, Mogwai, NIN, Tom Waits, Tool, Ozric Tentacles, At The Drive In, Inside Out.....
In conclusion I give my most sincere congratulations to Francesco Fonte and THE FRANCESCO FONETE BAND's rather section: bass and drums create solid foundations for a sonic carpet that reaches high touching the sky of a distant God.
I hope this Artist won't be overlooked because nowadays many are blind towards who would really deserve a record deal.

Review of ‘Blue Omens‘ by:

Entry XXXV: ‘Blue Omens’ (A Review)

My review of ‘Blue Omens‘ by TheFrancescoFonteBand:

At the outset, everything was Chaos and Chaos was barren, sterile, impotent. Then a hermaphrodite brought forth themself – fertile and imbued with a vehement lust for company (and a bit of selfish self-gratification). Atum, for such was Their appellation, then set about Their handjob and, self-fertilized, Their stimulated phallus spewed the primordial, hitherto dormant and therefore considerably set jism all over the omnipresent waters of Chaos. From these vast, turbulent waters an islet rose upon which two droplets of Atum’s semen transfigured into a couple of offspring – the divine brother and the divine sister of the human – the human, whose birth would follow in the wake of their drowning in the lustreless, obsidian depths of Chaos itself.

Extricated from the Socratic outlook on metaphysical conceptions, I will not seek to evaluate ‘Blue Omens’ within the confines of the dispassionate realm of figures, but rather see it through the eyes of a human being receiving a self-portrait of another human being, hence the introduction to an old myth which is but to portray the amount of passion (in the most modern sense of the word) emanating from ‘Blue Omens’. Rather than strive to be objectively critical of the flaws and virtues of the album, I shall give a subjective account of the impression it left on me. Rather than enumerate all the apparent influences, or attempt to overanalyse the sounds and techniques, I shall translate to words what I have found in waves.

I once heard a lyric the strikingly obvious connotation of which I could not possibly conceive of back then. However, it stuck in my mind just to breach the surface of my unconscious every now and then. It went thus, ‘You were not born to live like animals, but to pursue virtue and possess knowledge.’ At first I failed to infer the profundity of this thought and it only dawned on me much later that, indeed, what the lyricist – coincidentally also an Italian – had been meaning to say when penning such a grand proclamation which so blatantly degrades all life to a rank far below that of the almighty and honourable human was in fact nothing short of an ingenious way of saying that we, as individuals, have the power to deliver ourselves from the ruts in which we are held only by the inertia of the most common misconceptions instilled in us through our having grown up in the middle of the so called civilized world. In other words, it insinuates that we free ourselves from the enslaving fetters of utilitarianism, unleash our potential and begin to employ our cognitive powers, think and express ourselves.

Just like Atum in His frolicking bout of self-indulgence, just like the aforementioned lyricist, so does Francesco Fonte upset the decanter of his moody innermost contents in the process of cathartic creation and it is felt in every pulse of the record’s heart-bit. Passion cannot deny itself. ‘Blue Omens’ is a work of someone who unequivocally subsists on, inhales, exhales, secretes and excretes music as a means to transcend the nebulous bubble of a dreamland within whose belly every human is incarcerated for the duration of their journey towards the inevitable. Everyone deals with their life their way and this album is precisely that: the author’s cataloguing snapshots of the world through his eyes to expose himself in a way true to his own notion of worth. Records such as this one are beyond listening for sheer pleasure; records such as this are windows into the beyond. They are omens…and reflections and he who seeks to be entertained had better give these Omens a wide berth for they are a mere intermezzo in something more magnificent and spiritual than they themselves could ever assume to be; an ephemeral trip through the maze of a mind on a lengthy journey through the ordinary; a fall down the rabbit hole…
